Chris cycles for Cancer Research UK
Staff from Central Convenience Stores are supporting one of their colleagues who is preparing to saddle up for a very special bike ride this summer.
Chris Fowler, who works at the St James store in Southampton, is organising and taking part in a charity bike ride through the New Forest on July 3 in memory of her late husband.
Chris and her children Claire and Lee have been running the charity cycles for the last five years in memory of Chris’ late husband Paul. Paul was a keen cyclist and had been organising a cycle through the New Forest for his family but sadly passed away after a battle with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, a month before the ride happened.
Chris, Claire and Lee have been running the event in his honour ever since and using it as a way to raise money for very worthy charities. More than £3,500 has been raised over the years and the pair hopes to add to that total as they ride in aid of Cancer Research UK on July 3.
Around 25 people will take part in the 22-mile ride and Central Convenience Stores is hoping customers will dig deep to sponsor them.
Chris said: “Paul would be so pleased to see his family and friends cycling his favourite route, and it’s a lovely way to pay tribute to him. We’re hoping to raise as much as we can for Cancer Research UK, which would make him so proud.”
